WHAT’S HAPPENING

The Ballroom Dance Center has been teaching Augusta to dance since 1992, which makes it the longest continuously operating ballroom dance studio in the CSRA. Dance Smart at The Ballroom Dance Center!

Cats and Dogs 2020 Showcase

Saturday, March 21, Friday, March 27, and Saturday, March 28
Doors open at 7:30 p.m. each night with showtime at 7:30 p.m.
The Ballroom Dance Center is known and recognized across the Southeast and beyond for its Broadway-style theatrical productions featuring both professional and student cast members.  Few dance studios in the country offer creative, themed showcases that incorporate music, dance, film, storytelling, history and theatre.  Drawing on her lifelong love of history and humanities, Emilie Tobias, the studio’s owner and a senior instructor, writes and directs all of the shows for The Ballroom Dance Center.  She has an unique background and skill set and uses these talents to present ballroom shows that transcend a routine dance recital.

Another wonderful aspect of the shows at The Ballroom Dance Center is that they appeal to all ages, and the Cats and Dogs showcase will be no different.  From the six to seven-year-old child in the audience to the mature adult, theses shows transcend time and generations.  They allow us as dancers to cross generational lines and touch people, both metaphorically and literally from the dance floor, and bring joy to people as we share in this magnificent form of art called dance.

We hope you will make plans to join us for one of these shows as we salute our furry friends who have starred in songs and films and reside in our hearts!

Fourth Friday Dances
7:30PM – 10:00PM

Lesson at 7:30PM at all dances

Dance 8:00PM – 10:00PM with light refreshments

Be sure to sign up for our DanceSMART Rewards Card. Attend any five dances and get the next dance free! All guests will also be eligible for the monthly door prize drawings for great prizes provided by The Ballroom Dance Center and businesses within the community.

We continue a long tradition of fun and energetic social dances for our students.  The perfect learning triad of group and private lessons is completed by attending parties! That saying “Practice makes perfect!” is true, especially within a warm, hospitable environment where the total beginner to the advanced dancer is welcomed. Also open to the general public, all dancers will enjoy putting to use what they learn on lessons in a social setting.

Our dances are offered once a month, usually on the Fourth Friday, at the studio, with refreshments and, occasionally, a few performance numbers. The staff, instructors and dance hosts circulate to invite guests to dance and to even show them a new step or two.  A helpful and entertaining lesson is offered at the beginning of each dance. At some dances, the dance card system is used where pre-registered students get to dance with the teachers, dance hosts and staff on a pre-assigned rotation for the first part of the dance.  Admission to our Fourth Friday Dances  is $15 per person.

Themed Balls
7:30PM – 10:30PM

Lesson begins at 7:30PM at all Balls

Balls from 8:00PM to 10:30PM with heavier refreshments

There are special balls throughout the year, which may have special themes with costumes optional. There may be a few more spotlight performances at our balls with a more extensive spread of refreshments. All levels of dancers and current students, as well as the general public, are always welcome at any of the dances! During the evening you will be able to dance general ballroom, rhythm, club and line dances.  Admission to our themed balls is $20 per person.
