“Our perfect companions never have fewer than four feet.”  – Colette

The Ballroom Dance Center is known and recognized across the Southeast and beyond for its Broadway-style theatrical productions featuring both professional and student cast members.  Few dance studios in the country offer creative, themed showcases that incorporate music, dance, film, storytelling, history and theatre.  Drawing on her lifelong love of history and humanities, Emilie Tobias, the studio’s owner and a senior instructor, writes and directs all of the shows for The Ballroom Dance Center.  She has an unique background and skill set and uses these talents to present ballroom shows that transcend a routine dance recital.

It is with deep regret, that due to the global pandemic, we have cancelled the July live performance of our 2020 showcase “Cats & Dogs.”  Georgia is continuing to restrict live performances, and it is not possible to ensure the safety of our audience, cast, crew, and staff.  We appreciate your understanding and support as we navigate the unique challenges of this once-in-a century event. This is the first time we have cancelled a show in 28 years.

We are excited to offer a movie version of our wonderful show for you to enjoy.  We have hired professional film makers to tape our show on July 10th and 11th with social distancing and safety protocols on the set.  We will have a DVD available by early August for ticket holders and those who wish to purchase the “Cats and Dog” DVD to support the studio.

You may purchase the DVD from the studio as a supporter of the arts.  We know you will enjoy this entertaining show from the comfort of your home for many years to come.  Our teachers and students have worked very hard to bring you funny and moving dance numbers about our furry, four legged friends.  The DVD also includes hilarious and heartwarming videos of cats and dogs doing what they do best – make us fall in love with them!

All guests will also be eligible for the monthly door prize drawings for great prizes provided by The Ballroom Dance Center and businesses within the community.

We continue a long tradition of fun and energetic social dances for our students.  The perfect learning triad of group and private lessons is completed by attending parties! That saying “Practice makes perfect!” is true, especially within a warm, hospitable environment where the total beginner to the advanced dancer is welcomed. Also open to the general public, all dancers will enjoy putting to use what they learn on lessons in a social setting.

Our dances are offered once a month, usually on the Fourth Friday, at the studio, with refreshments and, occasionally, a few performance numbers. The staff, instructors and dance hosts circulate to invite guests to dance and to even show them a new step or two.  A helpful and entertaining lesson is offered at the beginning of each dance. At some dances, the dance card system is used where pre-registered students get to dance with the teachers, dance hosts and staff on a pre-assigned rotation for the first part of the dance.  Admission to our Fourth Friday Dances  is $15 per person.
